JL Werks is owned and operated by Jim Lenz, an independent artist and one-man operation based in Prescott Valley, AZ by way of Madison, South Dakota and Castle Rock, Colorado.
Everything that comes from my shop is hand built by me. I can’t say every idea and design is exactly my own because I like to recreate many of the things I see in my own unique way. But everything I create is a one of a kind – no two are exactly the same as I don’t do mass production.

All those shop classes in high school that everyone thought were just for slacking off and not “real classes” – were home to me.
Curiosity, determination, and persistence are what drives people to learn and absorb a skill. Whether it be brain surgery or blacksmithing.
I have always believed the Plato quote “Necessity is the mother of invention,” and although art is not really a necessity, I think it still applies to art as well.
Inventing is art and art is inventing.
